The U.S. Department of Agriculture Headquarters includes an 11-acre site located along the National Mall, where The People’s Garden is also located.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack declared the grounds surrounding the USDA Headquarters in Washington, DC the first People’s Garden on February 12, 2009 in honor of Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday.

Melwood provides landscaping, horticulture, and groundskeeping services to a wide variety of native species plant stock.  which include:

  • all interior and exterior plant care
  • composting, fertilizing, and mulching
  • crop fields
  • green roofs
  • flower beds
  • irrigation pruning
  • lawn and tree care
  • leaf removal
  • a mini mall
  • mowing
  • recycling and salvaging
  • shrubs and ornamentals
  • soil restoration
  • weed, pest and disease control
