September 13, 2017
The External Affairs team collaborated with NBC 4 in the Washington metropolitan area to produce four 15-second commercials highlighting its programs and services. The commercials began airing in early May, and continue to air during various programming, including prime time. The commercials feature the following Melwood program participants and employees.
Chester and Victoria have worked with Melwood for over 20 years. The two work in our Garden Center located at the headquarters in Upper Marlboro, Md., where they assist Melwood’s Horticultural Grower with plant cultivation and sales. Through employment at Melwood, Chester and Victoria have strengthened their social skills, are earning wages, and living a life of their choosing.
Cameron Davis was born with complete agenesis of the corpus callosum. He’s now 13 years old and has attended Camp Accomplish for the past four years. Since attending camp, Cameron is more sociable, more confident and adventurous, and engages more with others.
Elizabeth Schaubhut is six years old and has no formal diagnosis, as many symptoms affect her. After a couple of weeks at Camp Accomplish, her parents noticed an increase in her stamina and an obvious change in her confidence.
Maurice Woody suffered a severe injury to his leg in 2016, and was medically discharged from the military. With no place to go, he returned home under the care of his family. Maurice quickly learned about our services. Today, Maurice is a Materials Handler at the Naval Air Station in Pax River. After a few short months on the job, Maurice was able to move out of his family’s home and live on his own.
