Melwood Art Show
On July 22, participants in our day program had the opportunity to showcase their creative talents at Melwood’s Art Show. Art can be an emotional and therapeutic experience that fosters a sense of self-accomplishment. It can also improve brain connectivity, self-esteem, encourage creative thinking and relieve stress. Each participant chose the form of art they would showcase, which included sketch artwork, photography, paintings, sculptures, poetry, dance performances, and much more.
The event was a great success. All attendees had a wonderful time observing the various forms of artwork on display.
Professional Development Training Graduation
Last month students from cycle two of Melwood’s Professional Development Training program celebrated their graduation. A total of three students received their Certificates of Completion following an intense 12-week training class where they learned the necessary tools to successfully enter the workforce. Their training included classes on proper interview etiquette, budgeting, resume writing, communication skills, and tax form completion. In addition to the classroom training, cycle two students also participated in mock interviews, career fairs and job shadowing to sharpen their skills and determine their strengths and weaknesses. Thanks to the donations from Andrews Attic, a thrift shop on Andrews Air Force Base, our students were able to attend networking events dressed in the proper business attire.
We are very proud of our graduates and we wish them much success as they enter the workforce.
