April 26, 2022

Raffle tickets now available for purchase, partnership will raise awareness and financial support to advance Melwood’s mission of building a more inclusive world for people with disabilities

April 26, 2022 – Upper Marlboro, Md. – Melwood, a leading employer, advocate and preferred provider for people with disabilities announced today it is selling raffle tickets for exclusive access to the Melwood skybox at the July 4th Southern Maryland Blue Crabs’ game.

One lucky supporter – and twenty-four friends – will win the opportunity to watch the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs play the Charleston Dirty Birds as they celebrate our nation’s independence. Raffle tickets will be available through Melwood’s website and during games at the Blue Crabs’ stadium.

As chief charitable partner for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs’ 2022 season, Melwood will also host five “Melwood Feature Nights” during home games, designed to educate community members about Melwood’s mission. Feature nights include opening day, May 14, May 21, June 19, and June 25. Walk-up ticket sales on these dates will benefit Melwood and its vision of building a more inclusive world for all. The Blue Crabs will also host fundraising events benefitting Melwood, including game-worn jersey auctions.

“At Melwood, we’re committed to building a more inclusive world, including right here in Southern Maryland,” said Larysa Kautz, president & CEO of Melwood. “We couldn’t be prouder to partner with Maryland Blue Crabs to raise awareness around the work we do and empower others to break down systemic barriers. We’re excited to offer exclusive access to the Melwood skybox on Independence Day – an appropriate day to celebrate our ongoing journey to equality and inclusivity in this country.”

“Melwood’s vision of a more inclusive world in Charles County perfectly aligns with our community-oriented mission,” said Courtney Knichel, general manager for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. “We’re excited to amplify Melwood’s work and encourage our loyal fans and community members to engage with Melwood, whether that’s seeking out services and resources, or partnering with Melwood to build spaces where people with and without disabilities live, work and thrive.”

Melwood takes a holistic approach to empowering youth and adults with disabilities to live, work and thrive in their communities through job training, placement, coaching, strategic partnerships and other community-based services including an inclusive summer camp at Melwood’s Recreation Center in Nanjemoy, Md.
