Message from the CEO: Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Monday, January 15, 2024
Dear Melwood Family,
In 1994, President Clinton signed into law the King Holiday and Service Act. Inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.’s life of service, the late Congressman John Lewis and former Senator Harris Wofford proposed this legislation to encourage community grants for service opportunities in conjunction with Dr. King’s birthday.
Melwood is proud that our mission aligns with Dr. King’s vision for a more inclusive and equitable world. Each day that Melwood advocates for and empowers people with disabilities by expanding opportunities to work and thrive in the community brings us closer to Dr. King’s dream. Thank you for joining me in this worthwhile cause.
In honor of Dr. King’s birthday, Melwood’s campuses in Prince George’s County, Charles County, and Arlington County will be closed on Monday, January 15th.
As we celebrate his birthday, I hope you will join me in reflecting on how we can contribute to Dr. King’s legacy of fighting for equality and justice for all people everywhere.
Melwood and Volunteer Arlington will be hosting a day of service at our Arlington location on Monday, January 15th. Please join us if you’re available to volunteer! More information and registration can be found at the following link:
