Memorial Day Greetings from the CEO

May 25, 2023

Memorial Day is a time to remember those who have served our country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in combat.    Please take time this weekend, however you choose, to honor these soldiers.

I am so proud that Melwood supports our veterans through programs like Operation Tohidu, a holistic retreat empowering veterans to recover from service-related trauma. “Tohidu” is a Cherokee word meaning peace of mind, body, and spirit. Participants report that they leave with  increased confidence and optimism to overcome the challenges and obstacles that have limited their ability to build healthy and fulfilling lives. If you are not familiar with this flagship program, please visit the Melwood website to learn more: www.melwood.org. However, you choose to honor Memorial Day, I wish you “Peace with the past, through power with the present.”

In honor of Memorial Day, Melwood’s campuses in Prince George’s County, Charles County, and Arlington County will close at 3:00 PM Friday, May 26 and will remain closed for Memorial Day, Monday, May 29.

All Contract Employees and Day Program Staff should contact your site supervisors to verify your departure times. We want to ensure that Melwood fulfills its obligations to the sites we support.

Have a safe and happy holiday.

President and CEO
