Melwood Labor Day Message

August 28, 2024

As Labor Day weekend approaches, I want to take a moment to express my appreciation for each and every one of you. It is your hard work, day in and day out, that keeps Melwood going, our customers happy, and our leadership team so proud to serve you. Thank you for living up to the challenges each day brings. Your work fuels not just our goals and objectives, but our overall mission.

As an organization that exists to create pathways to economic independence for people with disabilities, Labor Day is especially relevant to Melwood’s mission. We understand what the dignity of work means. We know the lifechanging power a job can make in somebody’s life. And we believe that everyone should be afforded the right to join the workforce, earn a living wage, and make contributions that make life better for all of us.

In honor of Labor Day, Melwood’s campuses in Prince George’s County, Charles County, and Arlington County will close at 3:00 pm on Friday, August 30th, remain closed on Monday, September 2nd, and reopen on Tuesday, September 3rd.
All Contract Employees and Day Program Staff should contact their site supervisors to verify departure times. We want to ensure that Melwood fulfills its obligations to the sites we support.

Thank you for all that you do to help realize our vision of a world that fully includes people with disabilities. I hope that you and your family have a safe, healthy, and happy Labor Day!

Warmest regards,
Larysa Kautz, President & CEO
