July 4th Message from Melwood
July 1, 2022
Dear Melwood Family,
Having just celebrated Juneteenth and now anticipating the Fourth of July holiday, I find myself thinking about the meaning of freedom— who gets to define it, and who gets to experience it.
For our community, freedom means having an opportunity to live full and enriched lives, to experience the dignity that comes with meaningful work, and to be included thoughtfully and deliberately in our communities.
Making meaningful contributions at work and at home, being actively involved in decision-making, and using one’s strengths to the fullest extent possible, create a sense of freedom. This is the story of Melwood. This is our definition of freedom.
In honor of July Fourth, Melwood’s campuses in Prince George’s County, Charles County, and Arlington County will close at 3:00 PM Friday, July 1 and be closed on Monday, July 4th.
All Contract Employees and Day Program Staff should contact their site supervisors to verify departure times. We want to ensure that Melwood fulfills its obligations to the sites we support.
As you celebrate the Fourth of July, I hope you will recognize and celebrate your contributions to creating a sense of freedom and belonging for the Melwood community.
Have a safe and healthy holiday.
