Major General Troy E. Dunn and David Egan join Melwood’s Board of Directors

Upper Marlboro, Md. – Melwood, a leading employer, advocate and service provider for people with disabilities is honored to welcome Maj. Gen. Troy E. Dunn and David Egan as Independent Board Directors for its social enterprises. As Independent Directors they will play a vital role in the governance and stewardship of the organization, guiding strategic priorities, investment, and innovation to fuel Melwood’s vision of a world that fully includes people with disabilities.

Maj. Gen. Troy E. Dunn* brings a dynamic perspective to the boardroom combining technology expertise, corporate strategy, artificial intelligence, executive leadership, and talent management. As a C-level executive and retired Major General in the Air Force with more than 30 years of leadership experience, he successfully led initiatives in emerging technologies, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence and talent management.

Previously serving as a Community Relations Specialist at Source America, David Egan* was the first person with an intellectual disability to serve as a JP Kennedy Jr. Public Policy Fellow on Capitol Hill. Egan has worked for 25 years, first at Booz Allen Hamilton and then with CBRE as a clerk in the Distribution Center. Born with Down syndrome, David is an eager advocate and leader for people with intellectual disabilities at the local, national, and international level. He is one of the National Down Syndrome Society Ambassadors (NDSS) and represents self-advocates with the National Institutes of Health Down Syndrome Consortium. He is also the author of “More Alike Than Different: My Life with Down Syndrome.” David received various awards and the latest was the prestigious Quincy Jones Award in November 2022 by Global Down Syndrome Foundation. He was first to be elected to serve on the national Down Syndrome Affiliates in Action (DSAIA).

“Technologies like artificial intelligence are the way of the future, and I’m proud to be part of an organization that sees that, embraces it, but goes further to train the workforce of the future,” Dunn said. “With a shared commitment to advancing innovation, inclusion and social good, I’m proud to help advance Melwood’s mission of creating an equitable society where all people, including those with disabilities, can thrive.”

“As a man with Down Syndrome and a long-time advocate for the disability community, I’m proud to join forces with one of the largest social enterprises in the country dedicated to supporting, empowering, and providing choice-affirming resources to people with disabilities,” Egan said. “In joining the Melwood Board of Directors, I know that I am in good hands to better serve the disability population and I am excited to work with my colleagues to build a bright future for this organization.
