Christie Roberts currently serves as Melwood’s Vice President and Corporate Counsel, having previously served as Melwood’s Assistant General Counsel. She also serves as the Corporate Secretary.
For more than 14 years, Ms. Roberts has devoted her career to the public sector as in-house counsel to nonprofit organizations. She joined Melwood in 2014 as Assistant General Counsel and is responsible for managing the legal affairs of Melwood and providing oversight and advice on a wide range of legal matters, including ensuring the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local laws, providing executive and senior management with legal and business advice, managing Melwood’s Board governance issues, and researching and analyzing legal issues as needed.
Prior to joining Melwood, she spent eight years as a Staff Attorney and Senior Staff Attorney at Grameen Foundation USA, an international nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC committed to empowering the world’s poor to lift themselves out of poverty through access to microfinance and technology.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Pennsylvania State University with dual majors in History and Political Science. She went on to attend law school at Vermont Law School, where she earned her law degree and a Master of Studies in Environmental Law in 2006.
She lives in Laurel, Maryland with her husband, Scott, her two children, Kaden and Cora, and her dog Copper.
