Wills Group shows what corporate volunteer days can do

March 18, 2026

Every spring, CorpFest transforms Camp Accomplish into a hive of teamwork, sweat, laughter, and purpose. And no company embodies that spirit quite like Wills Group. CorpFest is Melwood’s annual corporate volunteer day, where teams from across the region come together to take on hands-on projects that prepare camp for the hundreds of children who will arrive in the summer. For more than five years, Wills Group has shown up in force, rolling up their sleeves to pitch in.

“It’s an event everyone looks forward to. Once you come to CorpFest, you’re hooked,” said Blackie Wills, President, CEO, and Chairman of Wills Group, a La Plata, Maryland-based organization that is the parent company of Dash In, Splash In ECO Car Wash, and SMO Motor Fuels. Both Wills Group and Camp Accomplish are located in Charles County.

The connection began nearly seven years ago, when Wills Group was first introduced to Melwood and Camp Accomplish. What started as curiosity quickly grew into a core partnership strengthened each year through giving, volunteering, and genuine shared values. The company now contributes $100,000 annually to support Camp Accomplish, but as Blackie emphasizes, “the appeal is multifaceted.” Their signature community initiative, Reimagining Outdoor Spaces, makes Camp Accomplish a natural fit: a place where kids can simply be kids, explore the outdoors, and build community.

Team building with purpose

For employees, the experience is personal. “It’s not just a donation,” said Becca Rodriguez, Recruiter at Wills Group. “It’s a hands-on opportunity for employees to have a tangible impact in a space that matters. It brings our company together in ways that don’t happen in a typical workday.”

Staff return year after year to paint, rebuild, organize, clear trails, and complete no shortage of other tasks. Blackie is usually assigned to painting duty.

“One thing I enjoy about this event is the opportunity to really get to know my colleagues. We’re out there doing something fun, in nature, for a great cause. It’s a great way to come together and meet people,” Blackie said.

Melwood President & CEO Larysa Kautz sees that commitment as the heart of the event. “Wills Group shows what true partnership looks like,” she said. “They don’t just support our mission financially. They get their people out in force, working to get Camp Accomplish ready for the next season of campers. It’s so appreciated by us and, especially, by the campers.”

As Becca puts it, “If you want to strengthen your community, this is how you do it—not just by taking, but by giving back with purpose.”
