Meet Cindy Plavier-Truitt, President of Humanim, a Melwood Affiliate

March 4, 2026

As Melwood welcomes Humanim into its family of companies, this partnership brings together decades of shared experience in human services and workforce development, strengthening our collective impact across the region.

We are proud to introduce Cindy Plavier-Truitt, President of Humanim, a Melwood affiliate, who continues to lead Humanim’s mission and initiatives through this next chapter.

Cindy’s connection to Humanim is deeply personal and spans more than 36 years. Over the course of her tenure, she has served in a range of executive leadership roles, ultimately stepping into her role as President & CEO, prior to the affiliation. Her longstanding commitment to the organization, its staff, and the people supported has helped shape Humanim into the organization it is today.

Her accomplishments include establishing Maryland’s first statewide behavioral support services, developing an ecosystem for mental health care in Howard County, and creating a portfolio of workforce-focused social enterprise businesses in Baltimore. She also helped lead the award-winning redevelopment of East Baltimore’s historic American Brewery Building, a landmark project in community revitalization.

She has been honored numerous times for her leadership and community impact, earning distinctions such as the Elizabeth Statuda Baker Public Service Award, The Daily Record’s Innovator of the Year, Maryland Top 100 Women – Circle of Excellence, and the Urban Land Institute’s Wave Maker Award. Cindy is also an alumna Leadership Maryland and Leadership Howard County. She also serves as Chair for Goucher College Board of Trustees and Treasurer of the Board for Maryland Association of Community Services.

Cindy’s leadership reflects the creativity, drive, and compassion that will strengthen Melwood through this affiliation. She affirms, “Both [organizations] have an unwavering commitment to our mission and we both have bold and innovative ideas, so coming together creates opportunities across the spectrum.”

As Melwood and Humanim move forward together, Cindy’s leadership will be instrumental in shaping the next chapter of this affiliation and advancing the shared vision of both organizations. Her depth of experience and steady guidance strengthen our collective capacity, positioning the affiliation for sustained growth, enhanced programs, and expanded impact for the communities we serve.
