Washington, D.C.—Today at a ceremony in his office, Melwood recognized U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (Maryland) as an AbilityOne Congressional Champion. The distinguished designation is reserved for those who have a demonstrated commitment to supporting opportunities that enhance the economic and personal independence of people who are blind or who have other significant disabilities.
“Every individual deserves to shape their own future. That’s why I’ve supported organizations like Melwood and their efforts to empower people with disabilities to work and thrive in their communities. Together, we must continue working to open the doors of opportunity for more Marylanders with disabilities,” said Senator Van Hollen.
“Sen. Van Hollen’s recognition as an AbilityOne Congressional Champion highlights his leadership and commitment to building a workforce where everyone can thrive. We’re honored to partner with Sen. Van Hollen and are grateful for his leadership,” said Larysa Kautz, president & CEO of Melwood.
The AbilityOne Congressional Champions program recognizes Congress members who demonstrate dedication to serving disabled or blind constituents. Currently, there are 130 bipartisan members recognized as Abilityone Champions.
