Cindy Plavier-Truitt is the President of Humanim, a leading nonprofit dedicated to human services, workforce development, behavioral health, and social enterprise across Maryland. With more than 36 years of progressive leadership at Humanim, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s programs, impact, and vision.
Her accomplishments include establishing Maryland’s first statewide behavioral support services, developing an ecosystem for mental health care in Howard County, and creating a portfolio of workforce-focused social enterprise businesses in Baltimore. She also helped lead the award-winning redevelopment of East Baltimore’s historic American Brewery Building.
Cindy’s career at Humanim spans multiple roles, including Chief Business Officer, Chief Development Officer, Vice President of Clinical Services, Director, Program Coordinator, and Vocational Specialist.
She has been honored numerous times, earning distinctions such as the Elizabeth Statuda Baker Public Service Award, The Daily Record’s Innovator of the Year, Maryland Top 100 Women – Circle of Excellence, and the Urban Land Institute’s Wave Maker Award. Cindy is also an alumna Leadership Maryland and Leadership Howard County.
Cindy holds both a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts from Goucher College, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Clinical Community Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. She serves as Chair for Goucher College Board of Trustees and Treasurer of the Board for Maryland Association of Community Services.
