Happy Labor Day everyone! Thank you for your tireless work every day. I hope that you are looking forward to enjoying these last glorious days of summer with family and friends.
It has been 184 years since labor activists convinced Congress and President Grover Cleveland to declare a federal holiday recognizing the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.
At Melwood, we recognize not only the dignity of work but that each one of us is capable of joining the workforce and making great contributions. Equity and inclusion are at the heart of our mission. We also recognize the important part that labor unions have played in earning benefits for workers and value the relationships that Melwood has with unions.
In honor of Labor Day, Melwood’s campuses in Prince George’s County, Charles County, and Arlington County will close at 3:00 PM Friday, September 2 and remain closed through Monday, September 5.
All Contract Employees and Day Program Staff should contact their site supervisors to verify departure times. We want to ensure that Melwood fulfills its obligations to the sites we support.
